SUCCESSFUL FOOD DRIVE!
GREAT JOB! Thank you!! The Food Drive started out slow, but we ended on a great note! We collected a whopping 1166 items! Way to help our community!
On Monday, November 24th, Mr. Wachunas and Mr. Farley dropped to give the school 20, as promised, to the delight of our students!
WELCOME TO AMERISCHOOLS!
AmeriSchools Academy would like to welcome Mr. Warden, our new Special Education/Science teacher. He will be working on bringing more science to the classes.
Welcome Mr. Warden!
ESSENTIALS LEVEL 6 - FUNDRAISING HAS BEGUN!
Along with the holidays comes the opportunity to fundraise for the Essentials Level 6 class. They will be raffling off an expensive bath and body gift, a perfect present, for $2.00 a ticket. Stop at the office to see the basket and pick up a ticket or two and help support our trip!
In addition to the raffle, they are busy selling Pizza Hut cards and Sonic Cards, which can be purchased in the front office. All procceds from Gold Canyon Candles sold within their class will be put towards the trip.
Mark your calendars for a bake sale on December 5th, the time and place will be announced later.
Keep us in mind when getting rid or replacing items in your home. We will be having an after the holidays yard sale in January.
With the cold weather approaching they will begin hot chocolate sales and breakfast in December.
The trip will be May 7-8th and will include Balboa Park and Sea World. If you would like to make a donation or help support this adventure for our students, please see Mrs. Mir or Ms. McCormack.
E-PAY CHARGE NOW AVAILABLE!
For your convenience, we now have E-PayCharge. This system allows you to pay with your credit card (it does not process debit-only cards). Transactions for purchases can be done in the front office, with credit cards being accepted for most purchases.
WINTER TIME!
Although we are enjoying a mild winter so far, students should bring or wear a jacket to school. Students who wear a jacket or sweater inside the building are required to wear uniform colors. Any color jacket or sweater may be worn outside on the playground, but must be taken off when in the building. Please remember to continue to bring a water bottle daily even though the weather is cooling off.
CLUBS, CLUBS & MORE CLUBS!
As the end of the first half of the 2008-2009 school year approaches, most clubs will be finishing up.
Recreation Club, Sign Language, Drama and Choir will all stop meeting in December. Letters will be sent home by each club sponsor informing parents of the last day for each of these clubs.
Tutoring will also be ending prior to Winter Break and notes will be sent home.
Clubs will be reformed in January, once we return from Winter Break. At that time new permission slips will be sent home for each club that will be offered for the last part of the school year.
A DISNEY CHRISTMAS!
The 2008 winter Program "A Disney Christmas" will be held at Post Auditorium on Tuesday, December 16th from 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Students need to arrive by 6:00 PM to prepare for their performance.
Family and friends come and be prepared to be amazed at the performances of the classes with a special skit from the Drama Club and performance from the Choir Club.
UNIFORM SHIRTS ARE IN!
The AmeriSchools Academy polo shirts with the school emblem are in and available for sale on a first come first served basis. If you pre-ordered shirts, they are available in the office. Please stop by to purchase them at your earliest convenience.

Our school spirit t-shirts are also available for purchase. These shirts can be worn as part of the uniform on Wednesdays. These t-shirts are available for purchase in the front office for $8 for youth sizes and $10 for adult sizes.
Polo shirts with the emblem are option for this school year (2008-2009) but will be required next school year (2009-2010).
SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS!!
If you shop at Food City, be sure to save your receipts and put them in the box labeled AmeriSchools Academy, usually located near the front of the store or you may bring them directly to the school office.
We are able to purchase supplies and educational items for our school through this program without any cost to us!
You can help by shopping at Food City and donating your receipts to our school from September 1, 2008 - March 28, 2009.
Thank you for all your support!!!
CITY DENIES 15 MPH CROSSING SIGNS!
Last school year, AmeriSchools Academy requested that a School Crossing be established for our site. The city traffic engineer observed our traffic patterns during morning drop-off and and afternoon pick-up on several occasions. From his observation of traffic flow and quantity, as well as his notations that parents were not observing the posted No Parking signs on the East side of 3rd Avenue, he concluded that we did not met the requirements for the 15 mile per hour signs and the establishment of School Crossing. AmeriSchools is currently appealing this decisions.
Parents, you can help this very important cause by making sure that your child is safe and that all AmeriSchools students are safe by obeying all traffic laws (i.e. double parking) and posted traffic signs including the No Parking or Standing signs posted on the East side of 3rd Avenue.
Please make sure that your children use the designated crosswalk to cross 3rd Avenue and to cross at the corner of 21st St and 3rd Avenue. Please be sure to park your vehicle in designated parking areas before allowing your child to exit the vehicle.
The Yuma Police Department Traffic Unit will be observing our area 2-3 times a month and enforcing these laws by citing people not adhering to the posted signs.
Please help keep our AmeriSchools' Students safe!!
SAYING GOOD BYE IS HARD!
As most of you know, Mrs. Roper has left the AmeriSchools family. We were sad to see her go and will miss her. We wish her all the best and thank her for all of the time and energy she gave to AmeriSchools.
ARIZONA TAX CREDIT!!
Take advantage of the Arizona State Tax Credit to donate up to $400 to AmeriSchools Academy and at the same time, save money on your tax bill!
A State Tax Credit will allow you to reduce the amount of tax liability to the State of Arizona or increase your refund. If you donate the maximum $400, your Arizona Tax bill would be $400 less or your refund would be $400 more. A single individual or head of household can donate up to $200. The $400 tax credit is available for tax payers who are married and filing jointly.
Your maximum donation can be split up between more than one Arizona Public School. We also accept payments of varying amounts until December 31, 2008.
Hurry! All donations must be made by December 31, 2008 to receive the tax credit for the 2008 tax bill year.
If you have questions or want to set up a payment plan, please contact the school office.
ART IS BACK ON CANVAS!
We would like to welcome back Mrs. Bravo as our new Art Teacher. She will be here on Mondays and Tuesdays teaching art and doing crafts with all the students. We look forward to more amazing projects coming out of our students with Mrs. Bravo's guidance.
PERFECT ATTENDANCE IS GREAT!
AmeriSchools loves to reward students who work hard to make perfect attendance for each trimester as well as for the entire school year. Students may have 1 absence OR 3 tardies for perfect attendance for the trimester. For perfect attendance for the year, they may have only 1 absence or 3 tardies.
Early releases count as tardies in both instances.
Students who meet the criteria for perfect attendance will receive special recognition and prizes. So stay healthy and come to school on time!
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PROGRAM!
AmeriSchools is continuing to partner with Habitat For Humanity to collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans for recycling. Habitat For Humanity uses the monies gained from the recycled items to help people from all walks of life build and renovate homes so that their are decent houses in decent communities.
Students need to bring in their plastic bottles and aluminum cans on a weekly basis to their classroom. The second week of each month, all students who contribute will receive an ice cream/popsicle treat for their recycling efforts!
The recylcing will be on-going for the entire school year, so keep those bottles and cans coming! Help make a difference in the lives of families in our community and surrounding area.
LOST AND FOUND!
AmeriSchools Academy has set up a Lost and Found Cabinet that is located in the hallway by the South Exit, near Miss Perry's classroom.
The Lost and Found contains many items. If you child is missing anything, please feel free to go through the cabinet to look for it before and/or after school.
Any unclaimed items are donated to local charities at Winter Break and the end of the school year.
